Plasterboard: partitions and ceilings

What the job includes

  • Building the steel frame plumb and at the correct centres
  • Acoustic or thermal insulation inside the wall
  • Boarding, including moisture-resistant board in wet rooms
  • Taping, filling and sanding the joints
  • Cutting openings for lights and sockets

How we do it

Partition studs go at 400 or 600 mm centres depending on what will be hung on the wall later — if a TV or a wall unit is coming, we put in an extra stud or a timber pattress straight away. For sound insulation we use mineral wool, not air: an empty partition carries sound like a drum.

Good to know

With a suspended ceiling, decide on the lights first. Every downlight added later means opening and refilling the ceiling — better to settle it now.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hang cabinets on a stud wall later?

Yes, if you say so beforehand. We put a timber or steel pattress in that spot and the wall will then carry a heavy unit.

Do you paint it too?

Yes, and then we give one quote covering the painting as well — cheaper than two separate visits.
