Cancelling a booked appointment: what is normal practice

The Abimeister team · Updated · 4 min read

Plans change: a tenant moves the date, a part arrives late, someone forgets the appointment was today. Most of this is straightforward as long as you let us know in reasonable time. This guide sets out what counts as reasonable notice, what happens if you cancel late or aren't home when we arrive, how to move a booking to another day, and which of our jobs this applies to.

Cancelling a booked appointment: what is normal practice

What counts as the free cancellation window

An appointment can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the agreed time. If your visit is booked for Thursday at 10:00, you can cancel or move it without cost any time up to Wednesday at 10:00. This applies whether you booked odd jobs, furniture assembly, or a flat renovation quote visit.

There is no form to fill in. A message or a phone call is enough, and the earlier you let us know, the easier it is to offer that slot to someone else. If your plans are only slightly uncertain, it is worth flagging that early rather than waiting until the last day.

What happens if you cancel late

Cancelling inside the 24-hour window is different, because by that point the slot has usually been held for you and other work has been turned down to keep it free. A call-out of 25 € within Tallinn may apply in this case, the same fee that would otherwise be deducted from the bill if the work goes ahead.

This is not a penalty in the sense of a fine — it reflects the time that has already been set aside and can no longer be filled. If something comes up on short notice, telling us as soon as you know still helps, even if it is only a few hours before the visit rather than a full day.

For larger jobs booked against a fixed quote, such as a flat renovation, a late cancellation is handled the same way in principle: notice matters more than the size of the job.

What happens if nobody is home when the tradesman arrives

A no-show works out the same as a late cancellation. If nobody answers the door and there has been no message to say the visit needs to be moved, the call-out fee applies, since the time has been spent regardless of whether any work was done.

If you know in advance that you might not be there yourself, it is enough to arrange for someone else to let us in, or to leave clear instructions for access. What matters is that someone can open the door at the agreed time, not that it has to be you personally.

How to reschedule a booking

Rescheduling is simpler than cancelling outright, and there is no separate fee for moving a booking as long as you do it with enough notice. Just say which day and time would suit better, and we will confirm the new slot once it works on our end.

If you are not sure yet what date will suit, it is better to say so early rather than let the original appointment stand and then cancel late. A tentative heads-up costs nothing and avoids the call-out charge that applies to short-notice changes.

  • More than 24 hours' notice: cancel or reschedule free of charge
  • Less than 24 hours' notice: a 25 € call-out fee may apply
  • Nobody home at the agreed time: treated the same as a late cancellation
  • Arrange access in advance if you cannot be there yourself
  • Message or call as soon as you know a change is needed

Which jobs this booking arrangement covers

This applies across the work we take on: hourly odd jobs from 39 € per hour, furniture assembly from 39 € per hour, and flat renovation work quoted as a fixed price from 180 € per job. Whether it is a short fix or a longer renovation, the same 24-hour window and the same call-out arrangement apply.

For a fixed-quote job, the quote itself stays valid for 30 days regardless of when the visit takes place, so moving the appointment does not affect the price you were given. What changes with notice is only whether a call-out fee applies, not the scope or cost of the work itself.

Cancel or reschedule more than 24 hours ahead and it costs nothing; less notice, or nobody home, and a 25 € call-out fee may apply.
