Metal stair and railing repair
A loose railing does not settle down on its own, and it is the most common cause of accidents in Estonian stairwells. Usually no new railing is needed: the fixing has pulled out of the concrete and rust has eaten through one leg.
- Price from
- 140 € per job
- Response time
- Routine work 24–48 hours, emergencies often the same day

What the job includes
- Re-anchoring handrails and railings that have worked loose
- Replacing legs and treads that have rusted through
- Re-welding a cracked weld on site
- Removing rust, priming and applying weatherproof paint
- Anti-slip on external stairs and repair of broken nosings
How we do it
We start with what is actually holding the railing up: every fixing gets tapped and loaded, because a failed anchor looks exactly like a sound one. An old chemical anchor in concrete will not take being tightened twice, so we drill a fresh hole beside it rather than reuse the same one. A rusted leg is cut back to sound metal and a new piece welded in, because paint over rust lasts one winter.
Good to know
Once a stair's load-bearing leg has rusted through more than about a third of its section, a patched repair is no longer cheaper or safer than a new section. We will say so plainly, even when it means a bigger job.
Frequently asked questions
Repair or replace?
As long as the load-bearing steel is sound, repair typically costs three to five times less. With a leg rusted through, or several sections loose, a new railing makes more sense.
Can it be done in winter?
Welding and fixings yes, painting generally not: most paints will not cure below +5 °C. We do the mechanical work then and come back in spring to paint.
Can an association order one stairwell at a time?
Yes, and that is the sensible way: we put one stairwell right, you take the photos to the general meeting and order the rest against the budget.
Guides and advice
A balcony railing's strength and height — what is worth checking
A wobble at the top of a balcony railing usually means the fixing at the base has failed, not the railing itself.
