Steel structures made to measure
An off-the-shelf railing rarely fits: the balcony is two centimetres narrower than the catalogue, and the stair belongs to an old house where no two steps match. A structure made to measure goes up without being forced.

How we do it
We measure on site and produce a drawing for you to approve before anything is cut — reworking steel is expensive. The structure is fabricated in the workshop, where a weld can be turned and dressed in ways that are impossible on site, and arrives as finished sections. Fixings are sized for what they go into: concrete, thin brick and timber framing will not take the same anchor.
Good to know
Balcony and stair railings have height and opening requirements that are not a matter of taste: in a dwelling the railing has to be high enough and the gaps narrow enough that a child cannot get through. We build to that even where the old railing was lower.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
Two to four weeks from measuring to installation, depending on the finish. Powder coating adds a couple of days, galvanising about a week.
Painted or galvanised?
Indoors, primer and powder coat are enough. Outdoors — especially near the sea or beside a car park — we recommend hot-dip galvanised stock: it costs more and lasts about twice as long.
Does it need approval?
On an apartment building's facade a balcony railing or canopy changes the look of the building and normally needs the association's consent, often the municipality's too. We say what to ask for, but the owner files the application.
Guides and advice
Building a metal gate yourself or having a locksmith make one
A practical look at what it takes to weld a garden gate yourself, and when paying for a made-to-measure one is the sounder choice.
Straight or spiral metal staircase: which suits a tight loft space
Before you order a staircase for a loft conversion, work out the space, the daily use, and what a welded steel frame actually buys you.
Who pays for the stairwell's metal door: association or resident
The stairwell's metal door belongs to everyone, so decisions and costs run through the apartment association, not one flat owner.
