What shelf installation costs in Tallinn in 2026

Shelves look like a simple job until you try to price one, because the cost depends on the wall, the bracket, and how many shelves you actually want fitted level and secure. There is no fixed price per shelf that means much on its own. This guide sets out how the pricing works in practice, what drives the time on site, what is usually included in the quote and what is not, and what a realistic invoice looks like once you have three, four or five shelves going up in one visit.

How shelf installation is priced
Shelf fitting is billed by the hour, from 39 € per hour, with a minimum of one hour and 30-minute steps after that. There is no separate flat fee per shelf, because the time a shelf takes depends entirely on the wall and the fixing, not on the shelf itself.
If you book us for a single shelf within Tallinn, a call-out fee of 25 € applies, but it is deducted from the bill if the work goes ahead, so it only costs extra if you decide not to proceed. For a job with several shelves across a room or a flat, this call-out is usually the only fixed line, and the rest is hours worked.
For a longer job — several rooms, a full set of shelves in a hallway and two bedrooms, say — it is often more useful to ask for a fixed quote. We give that after seeing a description or photos of the walls and what you want mounted, and the quoted figure is what you pay, valid for 30 days.
How long one shelf actually takes
A single floating shelf on a plasterboard wall with the right fixings already there can take 30 to 45 minutes, including marking the level, drilling, fitting wall plugs and checking it sits true. That is close to the practical minimum for any shelf job.
A shelf on brick or concrete, which is common in Tallinn's Soviet-era panel blocks, usually takes 45 minutes to just over an hour, because masonry drill bits go slower and the hole needs a proper plug rated for the load. A heavy shelf meant to hold books or a television unit takes longer again, since it often needs two or three fixing points checked for level rather than two quick ones.
Corner shelves, shelves that need brackets fitted first, or anything going above eye level where a step ladder and extra care are needed, add time on top of the base estimate. None of this is unusual, it is simply what the job involves once you look at the wall in front of you rather than the shelf in the box.
What affects the time on site the most
Wall type is the single biggest factor. Plasterboard with a cavity behind it is quick if the fixing is straightforward, concrete and brick take longer to drill but hold a plug reliably once done, and older wooden-house walls in areas like Kalamaja or Nõmme can be uneven or covered in several layers of old finish, which slows down marking and drilling considerably.
Access matters almost as much. A shelf at a comfortable working height in a room that is already clear goes quickly. A shelf above a bed, behind a radiator, or in a room full of furniture that has to be moved first adds time before any drilling starts.
The number of fixing points per shelf and whether the wall needs patching from a previous fixing also plays a part. A shelf held at three or four points for a heavier load takes longer to check level than one held at two, and filling old holes properly before repositioning adds a few extra minutes each.
Are brackets and shelves included in the price
The hourly rate covers labour: measuring, marking, drilling, fitting and levelling. It does not automatically include the shelves, brackets or wall plugs themselves, since most customers either already own these or want to choose them.
If you would like us to bring the fixings and materials, we can, and in that case a 10 % handling fee is added to what we pay for them. Many customers prefer to buy the shelves and brackets themselves in advance, which keeps the invoice to hours worked only.
It helps to have the shelves, brackets and any fixings on site before we arrive, along with a rough idea of the height and position wanted for each one. This avoids time spent waiting or working out substitutions on the day.
- Labour (measuring, drilling, fitting, levelling): included in the hourly rate
- Wall plugs and screws suited to your wall type: included if we supply them, with a 10 % handling fee on cost
- Shelves and brackets: not included unless you ask us to source them
- Patching old holes or minor wall repair: usually a short additional task, billed by time
- Call-out fee of 25 € in Tallinn: deducted from the bill if work proceeds
Fitting furniture alongside your shelves
It is common to book shelf fitting together with furniture assembly, particularly with flat-pack wardrobes, bookcases or shelving units from larger retailers, since both jobs are billed the same way, from 39 € per hour, and can be done in the same visit.
Assembling a wardrobe or shelving unit and then mounting separate shelves nearby is usually more efficient done together than as two separate call-outs, since there is only one visit, one call-out fee if applicable, and one invoice at the end.
If you are planning a room from scratch — flat-pack storage plus a run of wall shelves above it, say — it is worth describing the whole job when you book, so the time estimate covers everything rather than being priced piece by piece.
What a typical invoice for several shelves looks like
For three to four shelves on plasterboard in a single room, with materials supplied by the customer, a typical job runs to somewhere around one and a half to two and a half hours, which at 39 € per hour puts the labour cost in the 60–100 € range before any call-out fee.
For a mixed job — some shelves on masonry, some on plasterboard, across two or three rooms — three to five hours is more realistic, which brings labour to roughly 120–195 €, plus materials if we are asked to supply them.
The invoice itemises hours and any materials separately and is sent by email, payable within seven days. Our own work carries a 24-month guarantee, which covers the fitting itself, not wear and tear or shelves the customer supplied that later fail on their own.
Shelf fitting is billed by the hour from 39 €, and wall type, access and the number of fixing points matter far more to the final invoice than the number of shelves alone.
