Sockets and switches installed
An extension lead across the room is the clearest sign a flat is short of sockets. Adding one is an hour's work and settles it for good.
- Price from
- 35 € per job
- Response time
- Routine work 24–48 hours, emergencies often the same day

What the job includes
- Adding a socket or switch to an existing circuit
- Replacing old sockets, including unearthed ones
- Running concealed cable in the wall or in trunking
- Fitting a bank of sockets above a kitchen worktop
How we do it
We check the circuit load first: if the kitchen already has a dishwasher, an oven and a kettle on one circuit, we do not add a fourth load — we propose a separate circuit. The wall opening is cut with a core bit under vacuum extraction, so nobody has to sweep half the room afterwards.
Good to know
Replacing an unearthed socket with an earthed one while there is no earth conductor is dangerous self-deception. If the circuit has no earth we say so and offer either a new circuit or RCD protection.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have to break the wall?
For one socket a thin chased channel is usually enough. If you would rather not open the wall, the cable can run in skirting trunking instead.
Can you fit a USB socket?
Yes, they go in place of an ordinary socket and make particular sense beside a bed and in the kitchen.
Guides and advice
How to test a flat's sockets yourself before you move in
A plug-in tester, twenty minutes and a bit of patience will tell you most of what you need to know about a new flat's wiring.
