Booking renovation work in winter for a spring finish
The Abimeister team · Updated · 4 min read
January to March is the quiet stretch for tradespeople in Tallinn: fewer people are thinking about renovation, so the diary has more open slots and dates move faster. If you know you want a flat, bathroom or kitchen done before summer, booking it while the calendar is still open is largely a scheduling decision rather than a weather one. This guide sets out what winter booking actually changes, what it does not, and how to prepare so the work starts as soon as your slot comes up.

Why tradespeople have more room in the calendar over winter
Most renovation demand in Estonia clusters around spring and early autumn, when people want work finished before summer or before the heating season. Winter is quieter by comparison, which means a call in January is more likely to get a date in February than a call in April is to get a date in May.
This is not because winter work is different or lesser — it is simply when fewer people are asking. A flat renovation booked in winter can often start within a few weeks rather than being queued behind a backlog of spring jobs.
For anyone with a fixed deadline, such as a new tenant moving in or a family event, that extra slack in the calendar is the main practical advantage of booking early in the year.
How delivery times for materials shape the schedule
Tiles, kitchen fronts, worktops and bathroom fittings are frequently made to order or shipped from a supplier's warehouse, and lead times of two to six weeks are common outside the busiest season. Ordering in winter, when suppliers are also less stretched, tends to move faster than ordering in April when everyone else is ordering the same things.
A bathroom renovation in particular depends on this: taps, shower panels and vanity units often have to arrive before the plumbing and tiling can be finished, so an early order removes one of the more common causes of delay.
Booking the work and confirming material choices at the same time, rather than one after the other, is what actually shortens the calendar — the trade slot is only half the equation.
What «ready for spring» means in practice
«Ready for spring» usually means the work is finished before the season when most people want to move, sell, rent out or simply enjoy a finished home — roughly by April or May. It does not mean the work has to happen outdoors or depend on warm weather, since flat, bathroom and kitchen work is done indoors regardless of season.
In practice this means booking in January or February for a kitchen installation (from 600 €) or a flat renovation (from 180 € per job) so that the work, including any material lead time, is comfortably finished before the spring rush of viewings, guests or a change of tenant.
For a bathroom renovation (from 3500 € per job), which usually takes longer because of drying times for tiling and waterproofing, an early booking gives more room for those stages to run at their own pace rather than being rushed to meet a date.
What to prepare yourself so the booking moves faster
The single biggest delay in any renovation booking is indecision about materials and layout after the work has already been agreed. Deciding these things before you call means the quote can be firmed up and the order placed without a pause.
A short description or a few photos of the space, plus rough measurements, let us give a fixed quote sooner and more accurately, which is what turns a provisional date into a confirmed one.
- Measure the room and note the position of doors, windows, sockets and radiators
- Choose tiles, flooring, kitchen fronts and worktops before booking, or narrow it to two or three options
- Decide whether you are buying materials yourself or having us order them (a 10 % handling fee applies if we do)
- Check with your korteriühistu or building management about any house rules on renovation timing or noise
- Have photos of the current state ready to send when you first get in touch
What stays the same whether you book in winter or not
Booking in winter changes the waiting time and the material lead time, not the price or the standard of the work. Hourly work is still 39 € per hour with a one-hour minimum, and larger jobs still get a fixed quote valid for 30 days once we have seen a description or photos.
The 24-month guarantee on our own work applies the same way whatever the season, and it covers the work itself rather than normal wear or fittings the customer supplied. An appointment can still be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours ahead.
In other words, winter booking is a scheduling advantage, not a different service — the work is planned, quoted and carried out to the same standard as at any other time of year.
Booking in winter shortens the wait for a slot and for materials, but the price, the quote process and the guarantee stay the same all year.
